Game Project: Creating Game Week 8

Hey everyone, quick blog update for you here, I FINALLY got around to fixing the main menu screen, well sort of, the red text to indicate something was highlighted was always a bit off so I fixed that for starters, but that's not the main thing. The user can now select the Facebook and Twitter links that will take them to the Late Panda Facebook and Twitter pages. YAY! Although it does this with pop-ups which are stopped by most browsers... so.. not yay I guess but at least I tried. I don't think I'll fix this until full release but the menu looks a bit better now. See if you can spot the difference from the week 6 version.

As for the rest of the games progress I suggest to check out Andrews blog he does a very good explanation of the games current state this week, and if I am honest he has always known more of the progress of Spy Green since he is the coder.

Game Project: Creating Game Week 7

Hey everyone, so as far as I know this is the current state of Spy Green...

In this version of the game Carter's image has been updated to a more angled top down perspective, this is so it is more obvious to the player which direction you are facing. The guards and civilians have not quite been updated yet but they will be.

We have also added a clock image from another game to test the inventory system which is working in this version so WOO! Once the images for the items that will be contained in the game have been drawn this image will be replaced with one of them.

Game Project: Creating Game Week 6

Hey everyone, so the main progress this week has been the main menu screen. Here is a quick screen shot of our first version I'll talk about it in a sec.

Yeah... It's not that great but It's a start, we will continue to work on it as time goes on but now we have a main menu it's not a high priority anymore, so I don't see much progress being made.

In this current version of the menu the navigation works with the keyboard arrow keys and the enter key to select. The only part of the menu which can be selected is the play game but as the user moves up and down the text will change to red for each of the options. We have yet to create something for each of the other options.

This was quite a quick update on the progress nothing else was changed in terms of gameplay... WHAT? we do have other classes you know!... heheh...

Game Project: Creating Game Week 5

Hey everyone, we have made some progress but not as much as I had hoped, it seems that after the breakthrough with the guard AI we have slowed down development of Spy Green to almost nothing, which is disappointing. Although I also believe that the game is not far from passing the module, we are only trying to make it better so we can get a better grade, so it might just be my professional side that views us as lacking but hey... we are not doing that bad.

So here is what we have done, we changed the graphics into a top down version of each characters, although they don't look that great so we may change them. With them in its current state it is quite hard to identify each of the characters, and is also difficult to tell which direction that character is facing.

We also added the possibility of a secret path that Carter can gain access to, in the below picture it is the grey walkway at the top of the image. If the player holds the shift button they can crawl into it and sneak to the other side. This is a mechanic we wish to add into the game in it's finished state, but we will find a more useful way of displaying it.
